2026 Polestar 6: O2 Concept becoming reality, reservations open

-

Remember the stunning Polestar O2 Concept from March? It’s not a concept anymore.

Polestar has confirmed it’ll put a version of the electric drop-top into production, dubbed the Polestar 6. The catch is you’ll have to wait until 2026. At least that gives you plenty of time to save.

The car pictured here is the Polestar 6 LA Concept edition. Just 500 will be offered globally, each of which will feature Sky blue exterior paint, a light leather interior, and unique wheels lifted from the O2 Concept.

Keen buyers (even those in Australia) are already able to reserve a build slot for US$25,000 (~$35,500), and the car is expected to cost around US$200,000 (~$285,000) when it launches.

Under the skin, the 6 will be built on Polestar’s upcoming bonded aluminium architecture. It’ll feature the 800V architecture being developed for the Polestar 5 grand tourer, and is expected to pack 650kW of power and 900Nm of torque.

Flat out you’ll be doing 250km/h, and Polestar is targeting a 100km/h sprint time of 3.2 seconds.

Inside, the car pictured here features a vertically-oriented touchscreen that shares plenty with that of the current Polestar 2. It’s unlikely its software will look identical in 2026 as it does now, given the pace of evolution in the infotainment space.

Polestar hasn’t confirmed much about the cabin, but the O2 concept featured compact (+2) rear seats. Freeing up the space for those seats is the roof, which is a removable hardtop instead of a heavier and more complicated folding soft top.

“With the overwhelming consumer and press response, we took the decision to put this stunning roadster into production and I am so excited to make it a reality,” said Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO.

“Polestar 6 is a perfect combination of powerful electric performance and the thrill of fresh air with the top down.”

The recently floated Polestar has plenty of new products on the way before the 6.

The much-teased Polestar 3 SUV, which will share its bones with the Volvo XC90 successor, will launch in October 2022.

The smaller Polestar 4 crossover is set for 2023, and the Polestar 5 four-door GT will arrive in 2024 – bringing the Polestar Precept concept car to life.

Polestar says it wants to produce a truly climate-neutral car by 2030.
