Drag racing has been part of the American automotive culture.
Whether on the strip or on the road, powerful cars will try to reach the finish line first, however, drivers don’t need modern cars to take part in drag races.
Even a 52-year-old classic muscle such as this boosted 1970 Chevrolet Nova can dominate.
Captured on video at the Drag Racing and Car Stuff YouTube channel, this 1970 Chevrolet Nova is beating other cars on racing events such as the Midwest Drags and the Street Car Takeover.
Classic 1970 Chevrolet Nova As An Awesome Drag Race Car
As many have probably observed, the classic Chevy Nova make quite a formidable drag racing car along with muscle cars of its time such as the Chevy Camaro and Chevelle.
Drag racers would deliberately choose the Nova simply because it’s around hundreds of pounds lighter than the Camaro and the Chevelle.
Moreover, the Nova is easy to tune as it shares some parts with the Camaro, and it’s willing to accept many engines.
Chevy Novas are not without any winning record.
In fact, legendary racer Bill “Grumpy” Jenkins had well demonstrated the winning capability of the Nova, driving a 1966 race car famously known as “Grumpy’s Toy” to countless wins in his time.
It’s unknown whether Jenkins influenced (directly or indirectly) drag racer Brian Acton to drive a 1970 Chevy Nova in drag racing events.
This Classic Chevy Nova Drag Racer Is Winning Events
Tuned by Jonathan Michael Capizzi, this 1970 Chevy Nova features a 5.3-liter small block LS engine under its hood.
There is no information on how much power output and torque that this engine could deliver, but a single turbo is providing the required boost.
While output and torque data are nil, this LS engine in Brian’s Nova is powerful enough to send the classic muscle sprinting from nil to the quarter mile in under 10 seconds.
In the video, Brian was racing his 1970 Nova at Midwest Drags, a drag-and-drive event.
He competed in the Small Block Power Adder 8.50 Index class, a restricted category in which contestants should not go quicker than 8.50 seconds at the end of the strip (hence, the moniker).
Brian managed to drive his Nova to a quarter-mile time of 8.51 seconds @ 159 mph and win the class, then Brian and Jonathan also took part in the Street Car Takeover at the Michigan US131 Motorsports Park.
He eventually won the Street Racer Mild Class at Street Car Takeover, while Jon dominated the Small Tire category.
