Electric car startup shows off its retro single-cab ute

-

Electric car startup Alpha has posted a video showing off the capabilities of its retro single-cab ute.

This is the second time we have seen the Wolf, after its prototype debut last year at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.

In the video, Alpha confirms the ute will feature 65-85kWh lithium-ion battery packs and a 400V electric architecture. The brand says the Wolf can charge in less than an hour using DC fast charging.

It claims an electric vehicle range of more than 442km and can dispatch the 60mph (0-96km/h) sprint in 5.8 seconds. Alpha claims the Wolf has a top speed of 200km/h.

The company says it will offer single, and dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrains.

In the video Alpha makes mention that its base motor can produce 212kW of power, however torque figures have not been released.

The vehicle offers independent front suspension, 18-inch wheels, and a 1360kg towing capacity.

The Wolf is 4828mm long, 1900mm wide, 1768mm tall and has a 2780mm wheelbase. Alpha says the ute offers a 1828mm tray length.

Inside, Alpha has adopted an all-black interior which features a large Tesla-like infotainment screen, analogue instrument dials, and a two-spoke steering wheel with button controls.

The startup says it’s looking to start production of the Wolf in late 2023, and will price it between US$36,000 and $46,000 ($49,600 to $63,678).

The vehicle will be produced in the United States for local buyers only at this stage.

Alpha has outlined plans to open orders online and provide customers with “virtual showrooms” before expanding to a fleet of test drive vehicles across the US.

Alpha said earlier this year it plans to invest in a high-voltage charging network within the United States exclusively for its customers.

Alpha says it wants its vehicles to give its customers feelings of nostalgia, taking them back to the cool cars they saw when they watched Saturday morning cartoons as a kid.
