Meet Chevy’s lean, mean, 500-horsepower pursuit machine.
You may have heard that electric-vehicle sales fell in the first quarter of 2024, and you may also have heard that Tesla sales are tanking. The EV news isn’t all bad, however; Ford reports that it is having a hard time keeping up with E-Transit EV delivery-van orders.
Chevrolet Blazer EV PPV
But there’s a compelling piece of EV news you may not have heard: Chevrolet has developed a law-enforcement/pursuit version of its Blazer EV, and it’s on sale now—or very soon. The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV PPV (Police Pursuit Vehicle) has been added to the brand’s regular roster of gasoline-powered law-enforcement vehicles, which includes specially equipped versions of the Tahoe large SUV and Silverado large pickup. Both are offered in PPV and SSV (Special Service Vehicle) variations, the latter of which are not designed for pursuit work, but for long-life patrol service.
The Blazer EV PPV is designed to pursue and overtake, and has the available power to do so. Offered only with dual-motor AWD, the electric Chevy police crossover boasts 498 horsepower and a claimed top speed of 130 mph. Chevrolet estimates the EV PPV will travel up to 273 miles on a full charge.
Additional performance upgrades include Brembo-brand front brakes, Firestone Firehawk Pursuit tires on 20-inch steel wheels, heavy-duty suspension, steel skid plates, and level-2 charging of up to 19.0 kW, which is almost three times as fast as conventional home charging. The Blazer EV PPV will also accept level-3 charging at a rate of 190 kW via a CCS connector.
The cabin features cloth front seats and a vinyl trimmed rear seating area.
Per Chevrolet, deliveries of the Blazer EV began in the first quarter of 2024, examples of the electric Chevy should already be in service. Let us know if you come across one.
